THE PUB

20 years on from when their parents opened the doors for business, and after an absence of 14 years, sisters Hannah and Harriet McKenzie are ‘back home’ holding the reins at White Horse Inn - a traditional, landmark Country Village Inn with Dining on the Somerset Levels. Formerly a one roomed Cider House with a Victorian extension situated on the Causeway in the village of Mark and built on the site of the ancient High Hall of the Abbots of Glastonbury who travelled to the surrounding manors by barge on the Mark Yeo river, directly opposite the pub, in the 1300’s.

Now a quintessential English Village Inn and under ‘old’ family ownership since February 2015 (We enjoyed operating the pub previously from 1992-2001) the pub exudes a warm and friendly environment serving locals and visitors alike with fine, award winning real ales, a great selection of small vineyard wines by the glass or bottle and proper food, homemade, cooked and presented with care and attention.

Oh, and a nice blazing log burner in the Village Bar when the sun is not shining to warm the cockles on those not so warm days of Autumn and Winter.

The pub retains a popular and separate dog friendly ‘Village bar’ along with a Victorian lounge and our ‘Long Room’ which can also be sectioned off for private dining parties and small functions. We also offer private use of the Village Bar for special occasions and gatherings and are happy to discuss your individual requirements.

No pool table… no jukebox… no machines… just a quiet country inn to relax in, read the newspapers, have a chat, put the World to rights and enjoy some good company, food and drink.

White Horse Inn is first and foremost, a Village Inn with food and certainly not a restaurant or pretending to be one. Our Lunch and Evening menus are not huge, are always freshly cooked to order, which along with our fresh Daily Specials offer plenty to satisfy the pangs of hunger. Choose what takes your fancy, order at the bar and we’ll do the rest.

Nearly all our food is prepared and cooked on the premises from as many local ingredients and local suppliers as is possible and practical.

During the warmer Summer months spend some time in our large beer gardens. Hard work and our local gardening expert have helped to make them the ideal place to enjoy and spend some time on our warmer and brighter days.

We are happy to welcome well behaved dogs on leads in the Village Bar and gardens, preferably with their well behaved owners!

Children, accompanied by their parents are welcome too in the Lounge, Long Room and gardens but the Village Bar is exactly what it says it is and may not be a suitable environment for your children and we do not allow youngsters in the bar after 9pm
