About the Pub

Approximately 10 miles from Bridgwater, 5 miles from Axbridge, and 4 miles from Highbridge. Encompassing the hamlets of Yarrow and Southwick; the village of Mark, nestled in the picturesque county of Somerset, England, holds a rich history.

In the 5th and 6th centuries, the Mark Yeo river played a pivotal role in this region's history. It served as a vital thoroughfare connecting the small port of Rackley on the river Axe to Glastonbury, meandering its way across the marshes. This waterway played a significant role in transporting goods and passengers to and from Glastonbury Abbey.

The White Horse Inn, located on the Abbots Causeway in Mark, has historical significance. It was originally a one-roomed Cider House with a Victorian extension and was constructed on the site of the ancient High Hall of the Abbots of Glastonbury. In the 1300s, the Abbots of Glastonbury used to travel to the surrounding manors via barges on the Mark Yeo river, which flows directly opposite the pub.

Today, the White Horse Inn is a quintessential English village inn. We welcome both locals and visitors with award-winning real ales and a delightful selection of small vineyard wines, available by the glass or bottle. For those seeking respite from the chill of Autumn and Winter, a comforting log burner awaits. The inn's charm extends to its diverse spaces, including a dog-friendly 'Parlour,' the Victorian 'Lounge', and the 'Abbots Room,' which can be partitioned for private dining gatherings and small functions. The 'Parlour' is also available for exclusive use on special occasions, tailoring to individual requirements.

The White Horse Inn is, first and foremost, a Village Inn with a focus on exceptional food. Its menus, for both lunch and dinner, are thoughtfully curated, ensuring freshness and quality, with most dishes prepared on-site using locally sourced ingredients from trusted suppliers.

In the warmer months of summer, the inn's spacious beer gardens offer an ideal escape. Meticulous care by local gardening experts has transformed these gardens into a haven, perfect for enjoying the brighter and warmer days.

We extends our hospitality to well-behaved dogs on leads in the 'Parlour' and gardens, provided they are accompanied by their well-behaved owners. Families with children are also welcome in all areas with the only exception being the 'Parlour,' where children are not permitted after 9 pm.
